ANOTHER dramatic weekend of motor racing has just zoomed by, with yet more unbelievable incidents hitting the region's top drivers.
When Dursley's Steve Holford came to the aid of a fellow competitor in the Bridgestone Pegasus Sprint at Castle Combe, he did not realise it was going to cost him a place in the final results.
After Jim Garvey from Staffordhire had hit trouble during practice when his MG Midget's clutch broke, Holford generously offered him a drive in his own Midget.
But Garvey then managed to lap the fast 1.85 mile Wilshire track 0.3 seconds quicker to pip Holford to third place in the 1400cc road-sportscar class.
Kevin Lealan from Frampton Cotterell set the fastest time of the day to take the top award. Lealan powered his two-litre Westfield SEi around the course three seconds quicker than the next rider, Graham Ford of Cheltenham in his Caterham Seven.
Also competing at the Bristol Pegasus Motor Club event were father and son duo Richie and Pete Devall from Charfield. After overcoming mechanical problems which almost caused the retirement of their Davrian Dragon, Pete placed fourth in the modified sportscar class, and Richie ninth.
l The Bristol Pegasus Motor Club is based in South Gloucestershire and runs competition and social events for all motor sport enthusiasts. Full details can be found on the club website www.bristolpegasus.co.uk
