Almondsbury FC 2 Wotton Rovers 0
WOTTON ROVERS's topsy-turvy season continued on Saturday as they were put to the sword by in-form league leaders Almondsbury FC.
A two-goal brace from the dangerous Paul Evans sealed the points for this season's early pacesetters as Jake O'Neill's unbeaten run came to an end. O'Neill, in charge of his third match since returning to Synwell from Shortwood United, is continuing to scout around in his quest to bring new players to the club, but sent his team out at full strength for Saturday's tie.
However, a goal in each half from Evans kept Rovers at bay, as Almondsbury continued their impressive start to the season. O'Neill said afterwards: "We never really played well, and they deserved the points. They may have been the league leaders, but I remember seeing Patchway last year when they were at the top and being very impressed, and I didn't have the same feeling about this team.
"But, we still have a lot of work to do."
Goalkeeper Paul Eldridge was again singled out for special praise, having been in good form to keep the score down.
