STROUD AND District Autograss Club played host to the annual dash for cash compeition on Sunday October 4 at Gossington Bridge.
Driving on a half mile grass track with as left hand bend, more than 250 cars took part with a £150 prize fund up for grabs in each class.
After two rounds of qualifying heats the top cars in each class battled it out in the finals.
In Class One (1000cc Mini's) Carl Whitfield, from Kent driving IK295, took the lead from the start and was unchallenged by any of the drivers to take an easy win.
In Class Three (over 1421cc Rear Wheel Drive) Evesham club driver Pete Haines in E16 took the win in an action packed race. Class Five (up to 1420cc) went to home track racer Neil Robbins in S29D in a race which saw several clashes and spins.
Class Seven (Over 1421 cc), the most powerful saloon car class was lead from start to finish by R139, Paul Waldron. The fight for second was a family affair between Gareth Thomas (BC9) and Guy Thomas (BC8), with Gareth raching the line first.
In the first 'Specials' race, the win in class nine (1420 to 2070cc) went to Phil Cooper (ARC 5) who made and awesome start to lead from start to finish. Bob Talboys from Cam (A5) battled through the race to take third, with John Phipps (S11D) in fourth.
In the Junior final, Craig Bagley (C2) took the lead after an awesome start and lead to the chequred flag. Carl Smith (S121D), who won the Saturday final and reached the A Final at the national championships this year, came home in fourth.
Class two (1300cc) honours went to Darren Jones (PAC461) while Garry Perry (SV7) was unchallenged in the class four (up to 1130cc) final with John Richardson (YS9) finishing in fourth. The class six (over 1421cc) prize went to Paul Bailey (H99) at the second attempt, after the first start was red flagged due to a car spinning in a dangerous position.
The men's class eight specials (up to 1420cc) win went to Graham Bennett with the Class Ten (over 2070cc) men's final went to Lyn Davies in TA3. Yate Driver Rob Hedges (YS45) in fourth. In the ladies event Tracy Aldridge (S27D) took top honours in class one with Carrie Mills (BC22) winning in class two.
The womens class three, four, five, six and sevens all taking to the track at the same time with Annerley Wales (ST31) taking overall honours. The Specials ladies final (classes eight, nine and ten) went to Susan Herdman (NS57)
After the completion of all the finals, winners came out for the champions of champions race.
With a staggered start Darren Jones was over taken on the last lap by Guy Thomas, who claimed the £100 prize. Tracy Aldridge took the ladies Champion of Champions race to finish a suburb day of racing.
