FIRE crews were called to a blaze in a barn in Purton in the early hours of last Thursday.
Within minutes of the fire breaking out, the whole barn was ablaze, fanned by a south-westerly breeze.
The fire crews arrived at the incident at 4am and found a large number of residents up and waiting for their arrival.
After deploying water jets to cover the surrounding properties, the crews allowed the fire to burn itself out under controlled conditions.
Station commander Graham Ponting thanked the residents of Purton for their assistance during the incident.
He said: "The initial call was received at 3.49am and the incident was closed at 11.45pm some 19 hours later. Throughout this time the residents continually supplied the fire crews with food and refreshments.
"The concern they had for their friends and neighbours property and the hospitality shown to us throughout the day deserves to be acknowledged.
"On behalf of the personnel at Dursley Fire Station I would like to say thank you very much."
