DURSLEY entertained Smith's Industries in Gloucester Division II on Saturday and came away with a league win which makes four out of four. With a rest from League action for two weeks, then it's Old Colstonians at Stragglers.
Dursley started at a feverish pace and Smiths' were soon in trouble with wave after wave of attacks look like scoring. Dursley had a shock when numerous penalties were conceded, Smiths kicked a penalty. Dursley hit back immediately with player-coach Lane dancing his way through and under the posts.
Smiths at this stage seem shell shocked. Dursley piled on the pressure through the forward's of Allen, Brown, Stamp, Perry, Thompson and the impressive back row of Scott, Christian, Woodward, scrum half Perkins had the armchair ride he desired. Dursley could not break Smith's defence nor Smiths Dursley's. Half time score 7-3.
A stern half time talk from the coaches sprung Dursley's 15 into action. New recruit Mark Perry scored his first try for his new club, Lane converted.
Dursley now were in full flow and creating opportunities often, only for the final pass to go astray or the overlap not used. However, Lane put this right with a superb individual try which he converted. Dursley were still in control with Jones, Salter and Frost looking threatening with ball in hand. Two penalties from Lane moved the score to 27. Smiths grabbed a late consolation try to make the final score 27-8.
Dursley played Minchinhampton the previous week in the League and won 18-8 with tries from Perkins and Frost, the rest of the points coming from Lane's boot. end
