Gordano 20 Dursley 21

After another low turnout last weekend, Dursley cancelled their 2nd XV game and travelled away to Gordano for what was to be a brutal encounter.

The match started in typical Dursley style with neither side seizing the initiative. After exchanging initial blows, the Dursley pack began to assert their authority, and the pressure told.

Strong running from Weyman and Bennett and support from the back row of Dakin and Higginson, Dursley had a scrum five yards out.

A superb drive from the tight five of Sheldon, Smith, Weyman, Rose and Halford, Walkley had the task of grounding the ball for a pushover try. Spyvee added the conversion as Dursley looked to be taking control of the game.

From the kick-off Gordano pressure found the Dursley defence asleep and it wasn't long before they had opened their scoring account.

This spurred Dursley forward once more and clever kicking from Spyvee again took Dursley back into Gordano territory. More good play in the loose from the pack and some strong running from centres Ball and Case and makeshift wings Vaughn and Hann gave Dursley an identical scrummage as before.

Again the Dursley pack's drive provided Walkley with yet another score. Spyvee added the points again and Dursley ended the half ahead 14-5.

Strong tackling from Higginson, Wilcox and Jordan kept Gordano out temporarily, but the pressure couldn't be relieved and it was only a matter of time before Gordano scored again. Two tries and a penalty made the score 20-14 and the game seemed to be slipping away from Dursley.

After an intelligent box-kick and gather from Bilous, and excellent support and running from Cook, Dursley fought their way back into the Gordano half.

Constant pressure gave Dursley a penalty five yards out. Quick thinking from Bilous fed Higginson in midfield who crashed over.

Spyvee again added the conversion to provide a tight last few minutes.

When the final whistle blew both teams were sure that they had won, and only the when the referee added up the scorecard were Dursley able to celebrate a well-deserved win 21-20.
