FIRE engines were scrambled to Oak Drive, Dursley, around 5.40pm on Sunday following reports that a flat was on fire.
Two appliances from Dursley and one from Wotton-under-Edge attended and firefighters discovered a small fire in the kitchen of a council flat.
A man had to be led to safety by officers and was treated by paramedics at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Fire crews were detained for 45 minutes at the scene.
