Stourport Swifts 1 Mangotsfield United 3
MANGOTSFIELD maintained their promotion push in Southern League Division One West with a 3-1 victory at Stourport on Monday.
They had a disastrous start, though, when they went a goal down to a thunderous strike from Richard Burgess with just 32 seconds played.
But 15 minutes into the game United replied when Rob Claridge drilled the ball home from the edge of the box.
Mangotsfield then enjoyed the lion's share of possession and on 75 minutes went 2-1 up with a Dave Seal header from Drew Shore's corner.
Seal finished off the scoring six minutes from the end when he fired home his second goal, after a cross from Gareth Loydon.
l On Saturday Mangotsfield are home to mid-table Corby.
Yate Town 2 Paulton Rovers 1
YATE put their championship bid back on course after their reverse against Mangotsfield with a 2-1 win over Paulton Rovers on Monday.
The visitors started well but Yate went ahead on 18 minutes when Shane Andrews headed home from a Paul Chenoweth corner.
Another Chenoweth corner produced goal number two on 67 minutes, this time Dave Elsey heading a goal from close range.
With five minutes remaining, Paulton sub Chris Lewis pulled a goal back with a shot from the edge of the box, which encouraged the visitors to push forward, but Yate stood firm and in the final minute went close to scoring a third, with striker Darren Edwards being denied by the Paulton keeper.
Manager Rich Thompson said: "It was very important that we bounce back with a win following the Mangotsfield game, and that's what we did."
l This Saturday Yate are away to second-placed Evesham in a game that now assumes massive proportions for both clubs, with the top two teams in the league gaining automatic promotion, and the next four competing in the play-offs for the remaining third promotion place.
