OLVESTON teenager Holly Barrington has joined the creme de le creme of the dog show world by clinching major wins at this year's Crufts at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre.

In only her visit to the world famous show, the 14-year-old dog lover achieved no fewer than five coveted awards, including a first and second in the West Highland white terrier show classes.

Holly shares the success with the family's two prized Westies, His Master's Choice and Cabon Sea Maiden - or Bertie and Kizzie to give them their "home" names.

With Kizzie, Holly also notched up a first place in the Hound and Terrier junior handling class for 12-16 year olds and fifth in the Young Kennel Club handling class.

"She did incredibly well considering her age and the very high standards demanded at Crufts," said proud mum Glynis Barrington.

"This was only her second time at Crufts and she was up against top class adult competition in some of the classes."

Dad Malcolm Barrington said: "It helps put it into perspective when you consider that there were around 22,000 entries at the show and fewer than 800 first places.

"Holly has developed great dog show and handling skills. She is a high achiever who really wants to win."

It's not the first time Holly has won honours with the Westies. A member of Thornbury Dog Training Club, she was just 13 when she gained gold standard in the Kennel Club's Good Citizen awards aimed at promoting resonsible dog ownership.
