A PILOT scheme to reduce congestion on a busy ring road has been grounded by South Gloucestershire Council.
The Aspects Leisure Park and Share site launched last year, had been aimed at promoting car sharing along the A4174.
However, the project failed to get off the ground and council chiefs have been forced to cancel the service.
Pat Hockey, executive member for planning, transport and strategic environment for the council expressed disappointment at the performance of the project, but stressed the pilot nature of the scheme did mean a 12-month review was built in from the start.
"Clearly this particular project has not worked as well as we would have liked, but that does not detract from the wider transport work of the council. "Only last week the government awarded South Gloucestershire centre of excellence status for the quality of its transport work.
"We are already looking at developing a bus scheme that provides opportunities for residents to access the main employment areas in the district and will be working closely to develop the project with members of the South Gloucestershire Green Commuter Club."
