MARLWOOD School has won the U13s Gloucestershire and Bristol Schools 12-a-Side Tournament after a breathtaking run of victories that took the competition by storm.
The Alveston school's U13s team will now represent South Gloucestershire at the national 12-a-side finals on May 7 where, if they gain a top four position, they will make it to Twickenham and an appearance during the half-time interval of the annual Army versus the Navy game.
17 teams took part in the Gloucestershire and Bristol Schools event last week, which was organised by Andy Blackmore of the RFU and took place at Avonmouth RFC in driving wind and rain.
Marlwood topped their group in the qualifying rounds, beating Beaufort, Thomas Keble and Kingshill schools. They then defeated Archway School in the semi-final and then Katharine Lady Berkeley's School of Wotton-under-Edge in the final. The team scored 11 tries in the competition and conceded none.
