PROFESSIONAL wrestling will make a glorious return to Yate at the end of the month, with a grappling extravaganza that features a 'derby match' of sorts.
The event is called 'Outrage 2005', and the main event pits the town's two top wrestlers against each other in an unprecedented championship clash.
Yate's All Nations Light-Heavyweight title holder Aaron Fusion, a cult hero in the town, is to take on the challenge of arch-rival Alex Steele, the number one contender for the belt who has been eyeing a title shot for some time.
'Outrage 2005' is being promoted by the CSF (Combat Sports Federation), one of the top British wrestling promotions on the circuit, who are returning to Yate following a hugely successful sell-out event last year.
The extravaganza will take place at Yate Leisure Centre on Saturday, February 26, and will feature seven professional bouts involving some of British wrestling's biggest names, although the main attraction is undoubtedly the 'Yate derby' between Fusion and Steele.
Both men live in Yate but have never actually faced each other in the squared circle, but the recent signing of this championship match has given them an ideal scenario for their first meeting as it means that they will clash in their home town.
Fusion, real name Aaron Long, has held the championship belt for just under a year having won it last February at an event in Melksham, Wiltshire.
Other names set to appear on the night include fans' favourite Dave Mercy, Jason Fury, Odyssey, J.J Moore, Carl Conroy, Tex Benedict, Flaming Red, 'The Eliminator' Stuart Natt, Gideon, Jake Jeckle, Sudden Impact, Allan Grogan, Drew Galloway, Jay Phoenix and the former British Professional champion Justin Richards.
The show's promoters are expecting a large turnout for 'Outrage 2005' following a recent surge in the popularity of British wrestling and the fact that past events at Yate Leisure Centre have always been well attended. Indeed, one night of grappling action in Yate last year drew over 400 fans.
L Outrage 2005 is suitable entertainment for all the family. Doors open at Yate Leisure Centre at 7pm with a 7.45pm start and approximate 10pm finish. Tickets are priced at £8 for adults and £6 for concessions and are available on the door on the evening or in advance from Yate Leisure Centre.
