Egham Town 0 Mangotsfield United 3
MANGOTSFIELD enjoyed a comfortable win over bottom side Egham to pull three points clear of second-placed Clevedon who could only manage a 2-2 draw at home to Bracknell, writes Gordon Evans.
Difficult conditions hampered United's style and they defended well when they had to against a spirited home side fighting for survival.
Mangotsfield took the lead on 12 minutes when Rob Claridge chested down Matt Lock's free kick for the prolific David Seal to hit the back of the net from the edge of the box.
But United were often forced to defend strongly as Egham threatened to pinch an equaliser and it was not until four minutes from the end that they made the points safe with a second goal from Seal and a goal from defender Gary Warren after the ball came back off a post.
United manager Martyn Grimshaw said: "Though we defended well and Danny Greaves did not have a save to make all match, it was a relief when that second goal went in. We did well on a difficult and boggy pitch and handled it well."
Mangotsfield have now gone nine games unbeaten, winning six and drawing three, for 21 points out of 27.
This Saturday they are home to Rothwell who have now dropped to seventh place after initially being in the top two. Grimshaw is expecting a difficult game after losing 3-1 to them away earlier in the season.
