SIR - I could not believe my eyes when I read that it would cost a minimum of £150,000 to install traffic lights at the junction of the A38 and B4509 at Falfield.

For years this weirdly-laid-out junction as been a source of bemusement to drivers because of its unusual preferences, not to mention a source of danger as those who do not know it motor blindly on. Recently I was 'carved up' twice in quick succession by vehicles turning right off the A38.

I may be a simpleton but surely all that is required is an uncomplicated roundabout, where priorities are established - you give way to vehicles from the right.

And no one will ever convince that the the cost of this would be other than a mere fraction of the bill for lights, which are not coming anyway as South Gloucestershire Council has not been given the money.

We are supposed to have highways experts, not to mention overpaid councillors, whose job it is to come up with the simplest and most cost-effective solutions to problems. It's about time they did - and it's hardly rocket science this time!
