A BOWL of rice and a bottle of water was all some Yate students were allowed for a day in their effort to help victims of the Asian tsunami.
A group of 18 Year Ten and 11 pupils at Brimsham Green School went on a sponsored 24-hour fast as part of the school's fundraising appeal day.
The 15 and 16 year olds wanted to try and understand a part of how tsunami survivors felt after being left with nothing following the Boxing Day catastrophe.
The youngsters also donated the value of the three meals they would normally have eaten during the day to the Tsunami Disaster Appeal.
Assistant head teacher Jeff Davies said: "They had a bottle of water and two ounces of boiled rice each. It was the pupils' idea and has been very successful.
"They all went home after school so it was done on trust, but talking to them afterwards, it sounds like they really went for it."
The school has raised £2,150 through a combined effort of fundraising events and activities, but that total is expected to rise to £2,500 as more sponsorship money is collected.
