With just 16 games left of the season, Bristol City look to be heading for a final position outside the play-offs after a horrendous 3-2 defeat to Chesterfield at Ashton Gate last Friday.

That game will surely go down as one of the worst performances by City in recent memory. Indeed, the ramifications of the result are likely to be felt throughout the club and for some time to come after manager Brian Tinnion made his feelings known on the reasons behind why he feels City are under-achieving.

Tinnion launched a scathing attack on some of his players claiming that they lacked desire and 'had it easy' at the club. He went on to say that it was only the players who came to City from outside the club who appreciated it. He concluded, "Over the next few days decisions will be made affecting the rest of the season and beyond. It is a massive time in our season and I won't shirk what needs to be done."

And Tinnion certainly didn't waste any time in making changes that he thinks will turn City's season around. Starlet defender, Danny Coles who has come through the club's licensed FA academy has been placed on the transfer list. After a few relatively successful seasons at the club, it has been clear for a while now that Coles' commitment on and off the pitch for City has been severely lacking.

Northern Ireland international and City midfield player Tommy Doherty has also been stripped of the club's captaincy. Doherty has struggled to be fit for some time and hasn't started a match since Christmas. In his place, right-back Jamie Smith has been made captain after his battling, aggressive performances put in since arriving at City in the summer from Crystal Palace.

The wholesale changes made by Tinnion are somewhat alarming but nevertheless bold. Weeding out the players lacking effort but perhaps possessing the ability is a risky tactic and it will be interesting to see how the policy fairs.

Tomorrow, City face an extremely difficult away trip to Hull City. Despite a 3-1 victory against the Tigers earlier in the season, since that day Hull have excelled and gone into the top two whereas City currently languish in 7th.

Hull's home record is also intimidating, however Tinnion has insisted that he believes the Reds can get a result at the KC Stadium.
