SIR- I have read and reread Mr Malcolm Lynder's letter in which he lists the success of the Oldbury Power Station and its record of safety. He makes no mention of the high cost of decommissioning such a plant at the end of its working life.

I am convinced that we have neglected to explore the potential of generating electricity from the great tidal power of the Severn River, which could be a world leader in engineering and design.

Given EC funding, plus Dutch and German mastery of hydropower, we could be in business as never before.

My letter brings thoughts of eccentricity more then electricity, but I feel we have missed out on this free gift far too long.
