THE Thornbury Britain-in-Bloom Committee has been considering plans and activities for the coming year.

Members thought the town looked lovely last year they were disappointed that it only won a silver gilt certificate. However, at the start of another year there are high hopes of bringing the cup home. As in past years, the committee has decided to enter the national competition for the South West.

The committee has extended thanks to Thornbury Town Council for its donation, a very welcome contribution.

It will be necessary to replace some of the boxes this year and Tony Sansum, of the Thornbury Garden Shop, is obtaining new putchers from Mr Huby and will plant them later on. The model of Thornbury Castle will be painted by Robert Gorham and planted by Tony at the appropriate time. Thanks have also been given to the Castle Hotel for sponsoring the planting last year.

The Wild Flower Meadow is still progressing. There have been problems with dog fouling and the town council has now put a dog bin on the site. It is hoped that people walking their dogs will use it. Dog mess can be very unpleasant, and it should be remembered that a number of children visit the meadow.

Members are aware the police station boarder needs attention but at the moment, there is no one to look after it. A solution is being sought.

The children's painting competition is being organised with Joan Tuck taking care of this event. There will also be the garden competition, which Pam Gibbons will organise. More details later on.

The committee for 2005 is: chairman, Judith Payne; vice-chairman, Val Gregory; treasurer, Rita Freed; secretary, Sue Horsfall; minute secretary, Pam Gibbons; other committee members are Sandra Richardson, Elizabeth Vooght, Joan Tuck, Jean Owen, Fran Sparrow, Robert Gorham, Syd Philp, John Richings, Tony Sansum and Adrian Jones.
