YOUNG people need somewhere to go after pubs close.
A trip into Bristol can cost in excess of £20 each way by taxi just to enjoy a drink later at night.
For the young of Chipping Sodbury, a late night bar is an ideal solution.
Some residents have voiced concerns over the amount of time people will be allowed to drink for and the violence that may ensue when inebriated youths pile out of pubs.
Of course, there is a risk of more fighting and noise disturbance but how will we know if we never give it a try?
If people want to fight, they will do so, regardless of how long they have been drinking.
If anything, staggered kicking-out times will reduce the number of bodies on the streets and therefore, cut down the risk of mass brawls.
There have long been campaigns to give the young adults of Yate and Chipping Sodbury more things to do. Young people enjoy socialising and having a drink. We should not dismiss this idea because of what may be and at the same time tarnish all young adults with the same boozy brush.
As long as stringent rules are applied to establishments that do serve alcohol into the witching hour, then we should welcome the change.
