Into the New Year and as ever Bristol City look to have ensured their supporters a roller-coaster ride all the way into early May when the season finishes.

Before Christmas things weren't looking particularly promising after a 2-1 home defeat by Luton Town, however after picking up 11 points in the 5 matches played since then the Reds find themselves in a respectable 5th position in League One.

Over the Christmas period, City hadn't exactly set the League on fire with some fortunate results and average displays against very poor opposition. But on Monday night they had the chance to shine on Sky TV against Tranmere Rovers.

Previously City had NEVER won at Prenton Park and with the Merseyside club lying 3rd in the table, a win looked very unlikely. That was, until Leroy Lita ran onto a lovely lofted pass from midfielder Luke Wilkshire after just 10 minutes of the game to lash home his 19th goal of the season to put City 1-0 up.

The Reds never looked back and produced a battling display which saw them hold onto a magnificent away day victory. In fairness, City have been outstanding away from Ashton Gate all season long. Just 3 defeats on their travels all season tells its own story. If only that form was replicated at Ashton Gate then City could have found themselves in the hunt for automatic promotion.

As it stands City still lie 11 points off Luton town in 2nd place with Sheffield Wednesday and Tranmere still above them in the League. Play-offs for the third season running now looks like a good bet.

Tomorrow (3pm) City have a chance to really build on their recent form with fellow promotion chasers Bradford City the visitors to Ashton Gate. The Bantams stuffed City 4-1 earlier in the season at Valley Parade and City will undoubtedly be looking to avenge that result and come away with all 3 points.

Like Bristol City the Bantams have an excellent record on the road, boasting 7 victories already this season. They don't concede many goals and rely on veteran Dean Windass to score theirs. Bradford boss Colin Todd was in the crowd at Prenton Park on Monday and one would think that after watching such a good City performance he'll be keen for his Bradford side to shut up shop early on and try and win a point. City manager Brian Tinnion would do well to stick with his 3-5-2 formation that worked so well at Tranmere to break down the stubborn Bantams.
