A HAWKESBURY UPTON pub has won a coveted award for its real ales.

The Beaufort Arms has been named the Campaign for Real Ale Gloucestershire pub of the year for 2004.

Landlord Mark Steeds said: "We are well chuffed to win."

The South Gloucestershire pub has won the Dursley and district award for the last three years but this is the first time it has picked up the county award. Mr Steeds added: "Real ales and food are the two main selling points of the pub."

Serving up locally brewed ales was also a boon, he added.

Wickwar Brewery is a primary brewery for the pub, which also sells beers from Goff's Brewery, Cheltenham, and Warmley-based Bath Ales.

The CAMRA presentation was due to take place on Wednesday.

Meanwhile Hawkesbury Upton's Royal British Legion branch has presented Mr Steed a display case to mark 10 years as landlord.
