THE Prince of Wales will be visiting a secondary school in Yate on Thursday to look at the benefits of local and organic food for school meals.

The seminar at Brimsham Green School is being organised by Business in the Community in partnership with the Soil Association, and South Gloucestershire Council was chosen to hold the event because it is England's leading authority in healthy school meals.

The aim is to demonstrate that buying local and organic food for school meals is both practical and beneficial to pupils and farmers.

South Gloucestershire has already proved it can be done and the Prince is keen to show other councils how this has been achieved and the impact it has had.

Seventeen chief executives and education directors from councils across the country, as well as other groups interested in promoting health eating, will take part in the discussion.

Prince Charles will also meet pupils, teachers and kitchen staff at the school.
