Kingsholm v Rockhampton

ROCKHAMPTON travelled to Kingsholm on Saturday looking to avenge their previous week's elimination from the Village KO at the hands of the same opponents.

The early signs were promising as Shaun Williams (12-0-75-1) and Matt Tyler restricted the scoring to 62-0 from 17 overs, both bowlers unfortunate as simple chances went begging.

With a breakthrough required, evergreen White threw the ball to Will Tyler (12-2-47-2), who duly obliged with a two wicket burst to first remove T.Williams (21) and then trap Burrows LBW for 0.

The very next over Matt Tyler (12-3-36-1) sent Uthup (35) on his way in similar circumstances and Kingsholm suddenly found themselves 66-3.

The hosts managed to consolidate during the next 10 overs to get to 102-3 off 29, before a brutal assault in the last 16 overs yielded 155 runs, with Daniels (54), Eggleton (60) and Veits (47*) hitting the Rocks attack to all corners of the ground to reach 256-5.

Tom Cullimore (4-0-35-1) was the other wicket taker, whilst Rich Jones (3-0-24-0) and James Hancox (3-0-25-0) also suffered in the face of the late stinging onslaught.

A positive start was imperative to Rockhampton's chances of victory, but a probing opening spell from Moore (12-3-30-2) and Cambridge (8-2-23-1) saw the pressure eventually tell as Will Tyler holed out at cover for 13.

Wickets continued to fall as White (2) and Hore (11) both fell victim to Moore, before the visitors' highest partnership of the day between Matt Tyler (28) and Mark Beale (10) of 24 was ended with the score on 55-4.

Nick Gulwell (17) was the only other batsman to put up a fight as the Rocks subsided to a disappointing 96 all out, with Burrows (10-2-25-2), Rayer (4-1-8-1) and Henderson (2.2-0-6-2) proving just as effective as the opening pair.

In truth, Rockhampton were only in the game for 30 overs, and they know they'll have to put things right when Fairford visit Boundary Field tomorrow.
