THORNBURY Town brought their season to a close as more than 90 guests attended their end of season presentation evening at Thornbury Rugby Club last Friday.

While not being in the chase for the title, the season has seen the club consolidate itself as one of the top clubs in the Gloucestershire County League after just two seasons and the capture of the Stroud Charity Cup two weeks ago proved to be the icing on the cake.

Player of the year awards were spread around with Alex Moss picking up the First Team Players' Player of the Year award as well as the Supporters' Player of the Year, while club skipper Nathan Irwin collected the 1st XI Player of the Year award.

The Reserve Team Player of the Year was Simon Stone, while Ian Sebatch collected the 3rd XI trophy. The Veterans' Team Player of the Year was Neil Cook.

Meanwhile the introduction of the U18s side this season saw three new trophies awarded with the 'Ray Worseley' Player of the Year award going to Ellis Sims.

The 'Mike Wheatley' Players' Player of the Year award was shared between Christian Irwin and Ed Linsdale, while Sam Brassington, who appeared for all three senior teams in addition to the U18s, picked up the goalscorer of the year award.

The President's Trophy was awarded to first team joint manager Dave Wiffill, while Craig Walters picked up the Clubman of the Year award in recognition of his services to the club. Craig had played for all three senior sides during the campaign as well as providing valuable support to the U18s throughout the season.

Chairman Paul Wisbey was also pleased to announce that former player and first team manager John Hucker had been made a life member of the club in recognition of his many years of service to the club.

Thorns now look forward to the new season as they push towards the Screwfix Western League but they will have to do so with a new management team as Dave Wiffill has reluctantly stepped down due to personal reasons. Dave, and joint manager Steve Burbage, have been in charge for three seasons, bringing the Bristol Premier Combination title and the Stroud Charity Cup to the club as well as playing a major part in consolidating the Town in the County League.

The search is now on for a new first team manager and anyone interested in applying for the post is asked to contact the chairman on 01454 885631.

In the meantime players, both old and new, and anyone interested in playing a part in the club in the coming season should note that the club AGM will be held at the clubhouse at the Mundy Fields in Kington Lane on Monday, June 14, at 7.30pm.
