RESIDENTS of Westerleigh met on the village green for a service to commemorate the 84th anniversary of the dedication of the war memorial.
Wreaths were laid at the Sunday's service which attracted a large number of people including Royal British Legion representatives, explained villager Alison Howard.
The service also celebrated the 700th anniversary of the consecration of Westerleigh's parish church, St James, and was an early commemoration of the 60th anniversary of D-Day.
Meanwhile the latest fundraiser to mark the 700th anniversary of the church's consecration has been dubbed a resounding success.
Mrs Howard, who is secretary of the anniversary committee, revealed a plant sale raised up to £550 in just one-and-a-half hours.
The event, which took place at Westerleigh Village Hall, was a sell out. Money raised at the sale will go towards completing the celebration projects.
