SIR - I have to agree with the sentiments expressed in Drivers don't like Chaos (Gazette, May 14).

It seems that the present incumbents of the county council are acting out a hidden agenda to cause as much disruption and inconvenience to motorists as they possibly can in a bid to induce us to use other forms of transport around South Gloucestershire.

I am aware of at least four hare-brained schemes that have recently been done that achieve nothing but to increase the amount of congestion and hence pollution. The most recent being the remodelling of the junction at the west-end of Gypsy Patch Lane.

Speed limits are constantly being reduced, often in places that are totally inappropriate, which has encouraged certain drivers to conduct even more outrageous manoeuvres as a result of their impatience to get in front.

I am all for making notes of the registration numbers of such people (especially as they tend to be the same people at the same time every day) and forwarding the details to the police. If enough people did that, they could intelligently target their road policing and be more likely to catch these people in the act.

These people don't take any notice of speed limits anyway and the accidents they cause provide the excuse to reduce the existing limits further. That would have a far bigger impact on road safety than sticking cameras everywhere. Of course it does involve somebody having to get off their backsides, so it won't happen. South Gloucestershire councillors should remember, or perhaps be reminded that a large proportion of the electorate are also motorists!

South Gloucestershire Council has encouraged developments like the MoD, The Mall and Emersons Green into the area and then blame us for the congestion that has been created as a result of their own short sightedness!

If this is the way Liberal Democrats really act in power, then lets hope they never ever manage to form a government!
