THE OVER 50s can re-live their school days thanks to a special event aimed at teaching older people technology skills.
Specialist school for technology, The Ridings in Winterbourne, is staging Silver Surfers' Day on Friday, May 21 (8am-8pm), when 24 computers will be made available.
Tips on how to surf the internet will be the big lesson of the day, enabling people to read emails, shop and search for information. The event is aimed specifically at first-time internet users.
Gill Adams of Hairnet Training UK, the organisation behind Silver Surfers' Day, says that fear of technology is often a barrier for older people.
She said: "Events such as this one at The Ridings give people aged 50 and over a chance to use the internet and email for the first time helped by patient, friendly instructors.
"Once they overcome their fear, they are soon surfing around with confidence and are eager to find out more about what is available at the click of a mouse."
Anyone planning to go along to The Ridings to learn how to surf the net should telephone Donna Walker or Katie Hosegood on 01454 252050 for more information.
There will be full wheelchair access but limited parking and tea and coffee will be provided.
