SODBURY Players are to bring one of the most famous British farces of all time to the stage of Chipping Sodbury Town Hall.

Tons of Money, by Will Evans and Valentine, was originally produced in 1922 and has been adapted and revised by Alan Aychbourn.

The play follows the fortunes of unsuccessful inventor Aubrey Allington who inherits the life interest of a fortune which reverts on his death to his cousin George Maitland.

As George is thought to have died abroad, Aubrey has the brilliant idea of "dying" so that he can resurrect himself as his cousin and avoid paying off his own enormous debts.

But, in the best traditions of farce, a number of complications arise including Aubrey's meddlesome wife, another Maitland impostor (the butler's brother) and finally George Maitland himself.

Mike Hardwick, producer and director of the show, said: "Tons of Money really is a hilarious play with lots of surprises that will keep the audience laughing all night long.

"Although adapted by Alan Ayckbourn in 1986, this version still retains the unique feel of the 1920s farce capturing the humour and spirit of the original text with a modern twist."

Tickets for Tons of Money are available by calling the box office on telephone 0845 1260859.

They can also be ordered at Gimby's Books and Lucy Butler Flowers in Chipping Sodbury and The Kiosk in Yate Shopping Centre.

Tickets will also be available on the door of each performance.

Tons of Money opens at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall on Wednesday and runs until Saturday.
