A GROUP of youngsters in Thornbury were so inspired by the plight of a new born baby that they decided to help in any way possible.
Thornbury Leos, the youth division of the Lions' Club, has donated £500 to Southmead Hospital's Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit following one member's experience with the staff and work carried out there.
Past president Craig Tucker was in close contact with the unit when his godfather's son was born prematurely.
Two-year-old Thomas is now a very healthy toddler but Craig wanted to help the unit in any way possible.
He said: "When I went in to visit I just thought it was something really good to raise money for and all the club agreed."
The unit has been the Leos' chosen charity for the past year and the group has raised money in a whole host of different ways including tombola stands at various event, an Easter egg hunt, car washes and competitions at Thornbury's Victorian Day.
The money will be used to buy specialist equipment to help more babies born too early.
