ENVIRONMENTAL groups in South Gloucestershire are planning a splendid "green" event at Acton Court, Iron Acton, on Saturday, June 5 (11am-5pm) to mark World Environment Day.
Groups including Friends of the Earth, CPRE, the Soil Association, Avon Organics, Avon Wildlife Trust, the Batscapes Project and South Gloucestershire Council will be showing visitors what they get up to and how they can help. The Hawk and Owl Trust will be mounting its popular demonstrations and displays.
Guided tours of the magnificent 16th century house will be on offer and there will be plenty of activities for children, such as a hedgerows treasure hunt, and the chance to learn about bats and make bat masks.
A variety of organic producers will be selling locally-made cakes and preserves, fruit juice, honey and ice cream and a variety of mouth-watering refreshments produced by the WI Market will also be available.
Anyone prepared to serve as a steward for the day should contact Tony Harding (tel 772285) or Lisa Kopper (tel 227257).
Further information is also available from Sue Gawler (tel 228519).
* The first World Environment Day was introduced by the United Nations in 1972.
