CAMPAIGNERS are celebrating news that a busy cut through road in Chipping Sodbury has been closed to traffic.
Local residents and traders have been calling for Horseshoe Lane, which links Rounceval Street with Culverhill Road, to be closed off for several years.
Last year the Gazette reported how South Gloucestershire Council was proposing to close the lane to traffic from its junction with Rounceval Street and revoke a one-way system in place on Horseshoe Lane so residents have full access.
The restriction was finally been put in place last week.
A spokesman for the council said: "The proposals for closing Horseshoe Lane at its junction with Rounceval Street should improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists and thereby encourage people to walk and cycle to the High Street and encourage more children to cycle and walk to school."
