FOUR books donated anonymously to a local charity shop have been sold for £2,600 at Wotton Auction Rooms. The books were left for sale at the Break charity shop in Stonehouse by a passer-by earlier this year.

Shop manager Linda Clements noticed how unusual they were and pased them on to Wotton Auction Rooms.

The novels were all first editions of CS Lewis books from the author’s Narnia series, dating from the 1950s and all complete with valuable dust wrappers featuring beautiful illustrations. Philip Taubenheim, owner of Wotton Auction Rooms, said: "Remarkably, it's the dust wrappers that raised these books from being just interesting to very rare indeed. We are delighted to have been able to help Break find the right buyer willing to pay a good price."

Linda Clements of Break, a national charity which helps vulnerable people in their local communities, said: "We always keep our eyes open for items of value that could be worth putting into auction. This was an exceptional find for us and we would like to thank Philip Taubenheim and Wotton Auction Rooms for helping us to achieve such a magnificent amount of money which will help the vulnerable people Break supports."
