THE main road between Yate and Coalpit Heath has been closed to motorists following a serious crash.

Two cars collided near the New Inn on the A432 Badminton Road just after noon.

One elderly man has been taken to Frenchay Hospital with a head injury.

Police have closed the road from South Gloucestershire Council’s Badminton Road offices in Yate to the junction with Church Road in Coalpit Heath. Officers are advising motorists to use the B4058 through Winterbourne instead.

A police spokesman said: "Police are advising motorists to avoid the A432 between Coalpit Heath and Yate following a serious road traffic collision.

"The collision occurred at approximately 12.07pm near the New Inn. A white Renault Laguna and a black Volkswagen Golf collided with each other.

"The road has been closed between Coalpit Heath and Yate at Church Road and the roundabout near the council buildings. Motorists are advised to use the B4058 but the road is expected to be shut for some time."
