A MAN who suffered a heart attack has gone to visit the air ambulance service that saved him.

Ian Taylor visited Great Western Air Ambulance Charity at Filton airport to say thank you for saving his life.

He was attended to by the air ambulance when he suddenly went in cardiac arrest while out with family in Hillesley last July.

Ian, from Malvern, was treated on the scene by a specialist doctor and then flown to Bristol Royal Infirmary.

He and his family visited the charity to say thanks and find out more about the ‘advanced medical model’ they use, which allowed Ian to receive such a high level of care.

Critical care paramedic, Pete Sadler, said: "We are one of only eight air ambulances in the country that works to the advanced medical model, which means we have a senior specialist doctor and critical care paramedic on board who are trained to critical care standard.

"Therefore we’re able to offer the resources of an A&E department or intensive care unit at the incident scene, which is what greatly benefitted Ian."

Ian spent three weeks in hospital before returning home for recuperation. He has now made a full recovery.
