WATER supplier Severn Trent is warning that it may have to impose water restrictions if more rain doesn’t materialise.
Despite recent rain the company said it will take more than a few showers to restore the reservoirs after the second driest spring since records began.
In Gloucestershire we have seen around 39 per cent of average rainfall and some reservoirs are well below usual levels.
Martin Kane, customer services director at Severn Trent, said: "Our first priority is to provide a continuous supply of high quality drinking water to our customers, but as a result of the recent weather most of our reservoirs are lower than we would like them to be, with Whitacre reservoir at 64 per cent mark. "While it might not be a popular thing to wish for during the summer, what we need is more rain, spread over several days and weeks, so the reservoirs across the region can be replenished."
No final decision has been made but Severn Trent confirmed that if it does not see a return to seasonal average rainfall it may have to put in place water restrictions in parts of the region.
It is calling on customers to conserve water supplies as much as possible and use water wisely.
