What a buzz of excited voices greeted me as I arrived in the church to find it filled with grandparents, mums and dads and of course lots of wide-eyed children! Four schools were participating this year , Cam Hopton, Dursley, St Joseph's and Coaley.
Soon we were ready to begin and the Cam Hopton girls quickly took up position on "stage", smart in their navy blue tops, and launched into Roller Ghoster and a mystery song, each accompanied by much clapping of hands. The Dursley Instrumentalists gave what was announced as their very first concert. A study in red they launched enthusiastically into Tudor Fanfare and Cowboy Song. The St Joseph's contingent filled rather more of the stage in their grey and yellow uniforms and scored hits with renderings of April Shower, Cats and Dogs and a Gospel Melody. The Saints Marched In to provide a striking climax. It was then Coaley's turn and their rather smaller band of performers in navy tops sang I Love The Flowers and Jelly Fish appealingly. This was Coaley's first appearance at one of these concerts.
It was then the turn of St Joseph's to perform again and show their prowess on various nusical instruments. Cam Hopton choir's second appearance was a hit: Don't Be Anything Less Than You Can Be was crisply and confidently sung and, very importantly, they all showed enjoyment in their singing. This also applied to Dursley's singing of Sunshine In My Heart which proved popular. The concert ended on an ambitious note with all four schools combining to sing Butterfly. There was a good body of sound and it rounded off a most successful and enjoyable concert.
Just one small request: next year will the announcers (ie, the teachers, who are to be congratulated on all their hard work) please link up to a microphone so that we can hear better what they are announcing?
