WAITING restrictions are due to be imposed around a busy industrial estate on the edge of Winterbourne.

South Gloucestershire Council has agreed to tighter parking rules at Vantage Park industrial area to clamp down on inconsiderate drivers.

The plans will see a no waiting at any time zone created at the junction with the B4427 Old Gloucester Road at Northwood Park junction and on Winterbourne Road.

The move comes after local residents raised concerns over the safety of drivers in the area as so many parked cars were reducing visibility for other motorists.

A council spokesman said: "The aim of the proposed waiting restrictions is to improve the visibility for motorists exiting Vantage Office Park and improve road safety for all users.

"Between Monday and Friday the junction and approaches are prone to inconsiderate parking, in particular vehicles parking such that visibility to the east and west is severely restricted when trying to exit Vantage Office Park.

"As a result of this many motorists have reported near miss accidents to South Gloucestershire Council."

The authority is also concerned for trainee motorcyclists, who use the junction whilst learning at the Motorcycle Training Centre based within the industrial estate.

Bradley Stoke Town Council has objected on the grounds that people will have nowhere to park.

A spokesman said: "Councillors appreciate that the point of this scheme is to reduce highway concerns in the area, but feel that the cars will have to park somewhere since it is obvious that insufficient parking provision was made when planning permission was granted on the Vantage Office Park site."

Cllr John Godwin (Con, Winterbourne) said he supported the scheme.

"I am very happy to support this decision," he said. "I have been asking for such restrictions on behalf of residents and pleased this is to happen."
