YOUNGSTERS in Hawkesbury Upton are looking for locals to tee off in aid of their youth club.
The village youth group is staging a village-wide crazy golf event on Saturday, July 2 to raise much-needed funds. On the day, 12 local gardens will be transformed into putting greens and participants will compete to get round the course using the fewest possible shots, with prizes awarded for all age groups.
The event will raise money for the group, which since it was founded in 1997 has become a valuable weekly social fixture for local teenagers.
Chairman Bill Fairney said council grants have contributed to the cost of staff, facilities and outings, but recent government cuts meant that source of funding would not be renewed. "The youth group must now work hard to raise money to ensure it can remain open," he said.
"Our crazy golf day is going to be the first of many fundraising events and I'm sure it's going to be great fun for everyone who comes along to support us."
The course begins at 2 The Tithe Barn, the last house on the main road at the Monument end of the village, and players may tee off any time between 10am and 11am. Players need to allow one or two hours to complete the course depending on their level of skill. All equipment will be provided and refreshments will be for sale along the route. Prices are £3 per adult, £2 per child and £10 for a family ticket for up to two adults and four children. No advance booking necessary and all are welcome.
