A WOTTON couple have just come to the end of a two year study of a small Gloucestershire valley and will be displaying the art and photos that came out of their exploration.

Lynne Clarke, a local artist, decided two years ago she wanted to paint a series of pictures of the valley from her garden in Coombe, called Tyley Bottom.

However on exploring the valley she realised that there were many more views that she wanted to paint and so it became a long-running project, that eventually drew in her husband Martin as well.

"I kept on getting lost on the footpaths so my husband Martin started to come with me on sketching trips and he took photographs and recorded sounds whilst I was working," said Lynne.

Tyley Bottom is a beautiful unspoilt valley in Wotton that was once an important part of the wool trade.

"It is the most beautiful place," said Lynne, 60, a former art teacher. "When you are up there you wouldn’t know what century you were in, there are no signs of modern life."

She and Martin spent two years exploring the valley at all times of year and in all weather. They have put together a special exhibit called UP TYLEY for Under the Edge Arts including around 20 of Lynne’s paintings, a collection of Martin's photos and a video also created by Martin.

"I am hoping that it will be more than an exhibition," said Lynne. "I want it to stir memories in people. We should celebrate Tyley Bottom because it is right on our doorsteps in Wotton and we are so lucky."

The exhibition will be held in the Under the Edge Arts Centre, The Chipping, on Saturday July 2 and Sunday, July 3 from 10am–4pm, free admission.
