A JILTED lover has been found guilty of the attempted murder of his ex-fiancee.
Nigel Bassett, 62, of Wotton-under-Edge, faced a week-long trial at Bristol Crown Court after attacking his former wife-to-be with a pair of scissors.
The attack on Julie Grey, 61, from Shepperdine, happened in broad daylight in The Chipping car park in Wotton-under-Edge last November, after she called an end to their relationship.
During the trial the prosecution said Bassett had used a pair of scissors to stab Mrs Grey all over her back and hands, and stamped on her neck and kicked her in the face.
Bassett had pleaded not guilty to the charge of attempted murder but had pleaded guilty to the charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Bassett will be sentenced on July 19.
