A MULTI-million pound primary school has been officially opened by local dignitaries. A special assembly, and a balloon release marked the opening of St Peter’s Primary School in Pilning, which opened to pupils back in March. Guests at the school on Wednesday, June 29 included an array of dignitaries such as members of the Anglican and Methodist churches, local councillors and those involved with the project. The £5 million school includes modern classrooms, a new library, a large multi-activity hall, and an ampitheatre. Cllr Sheila Cook, executive member for children and young people, said: "The new build is testament to the council’s commitment to investing in our children and young people and giving them the best possible start in life." Following the amalgamation of Redwick and Northwick CE Primary School with Pilning Primary School in September 2007, the school has been completely rebuilt on a brand new site. Head teacher, Keith Tinline-Purvis, added: "Our new school is fit for the 21st Century. We are constantly developing it in to a school that really does have children at its heart and is an integral part of the community. We count ourselves lucky to have such a stimulating, vibrant learning environment for our present children and future generations to come." During the official opening a time capsule was also buried within the school grounds, which contained a photo of all the pupils, an aerial picture of the school, a sunflower, some money, a bible and a football.
