THOUSANDS of pounds were raised for Cancer Research UK on Saturday during a gruelling day-long challenge.
The Relay for Life event at Yate Outdoor Sports Complex saw 23 teams take part in the 24-hour relay, raising almost £28,000 for the charity.
The challenge involved each team member taking it in turns to walk laps, ensuring that at least one member was on the track at all times.
Organiser Tina Nolan said: "As always it was such hard work but completely worth it. The atmosphere was superb, it was a fantastic day."
Fancy dress costumes maintained a fun energy and there were generous donations from companies to help support the participants. Coca Cola donated vitamin water and Bon Appetite provided a hog roast whilst DJ Dom stayed the entire time to provide the music.
As night fell a Candle of Hope ceremony took place, giving team members the chance to pay special tribute to loved ones.
Cancer survivors spoke to show their gratitude to the contributors and show them how their efforts can make a difference.
Tina told the Gazette: "There have been more cancer survivors this year and some were there to speak about what this means to them, it was very moving."
Even though the day raised thousands of pounds, charity workers want more people to get involved.
Said Tina: "If anything, we need to improve on getting more members of the public there. Some of the committee are unavailable next year and we really want to encourage people to get in touch."
