A CHIPPING Sodbury estate agent is practicing his putting in preparation for a charity golf day.

Stephen Worlock is captaining a team in the Mike Nelmes Charity Day, on Friday, June 1, in memory of his father who died of leukaemia in July 2000.

Mr Worlock, who works for Country Property on Broad Street, has been teeing off for a team since the charity event started three years ago.

"I love golf," said the 36-year-old. "The Mike Nelmes Charity Day is a thoroughly enjoyable day.

"There’s great banter and I’ve made some good contacts with other local businesses and I am proud to support such a worthwhile cause."

Mr Worlock’s team, The Players, won the contest in the first year and Country Property has sponsored a hole since it was introduced in 2010.

The golf day, which takes place at Thornbury Golf Club and raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care, was created by Mr Worlock’s friends Paul and Samantha Nelmes in tribute to Paul’s father Mike, who died from cancer in 2004.

Their family received support from a local Macmillan Cancer nurse specialist who inspired them to raise money and help the charity provide support for as many people as possible.

Mr Nelmes said: "Stephen is a close friend of ours who has supported us since we started. Country Property have been kind enough to support us since introducing hole sponsors. "It’s only with the support of businesses like Country Property that we are able to continue to host this event raising money for those suffering from this terrible illness, so we are calling out for sponsors and raffle prizes for this year’s golf day." Entry costs £40 per person and includes a hot buffet. For the first year ever the golf day will be followed by an evening summer party with a raffle, food and music until late for £10 per person.
