PEOPLE living in Dursley are being invited to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee at a special town centre street party.
On Sunday, June 3 (12.30-2pm) during the Jubilee weekend Dursley Town Centre Churches are organising a street party, which they hope will bring the whole town together.
Dursley Town Centre Churches includes Dursley Tabernacle, St James the Great and Dursley Methodist Church.
Rev Simon Helme, minister of Dursley Tabernacle, said: "National celebrations and the opportunity for a community street party only come around once in a generation.
"We wanted to offer the people of Dursley the chance to come together and share lunch and make memories that will be part of the family photo album for years to come."
He added: "It doesn’t matter where in Dursley you live, if your street isn’t doing a party then come to ours in the town centre."
The Big Lunch, part of a national initiative by the Eden Project and Hope Together, will take place on Parsonage Street in the pedestrianised centre of Dursley.
The churches will set up tables in a long line down Parsonage Street and anyone is invited to come and sit at them and share food. There will be music, quizzes and activities, but organisers have said the main emphasis was on the community coming together to share a Big Lunch.
Rev Janet Bromley, Rector of St James the Great, said: "We hope that young and old will come and join our community celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
"There will be plenty of food so please come even if you can’t bring anything.
"The most important thing is getting together and enjoying each other’s company."
