RUNNERS are being asked to get their trainers on in the name of charity next month for the second Dursley 10k.

Organised by Steve Herbert and his team at the Old Spot pub in Dursley, the run, known as The Great Pig Run, will take place during the Jubilee weekend on Sunday, June 3.

The 10 kilometre run, starting and ending at the Old Spot via Uley, was held for the first time last year when more than 90 runners managed to raise £1,500 for the Cotswold Care Hospice.

Mr Herbert said: "Anyone can join in and they can run it, walk it and crawl it if they want. This is for anyone - families, the young, the old, even dogs.

"We’ll even have a quiz the children can do on the way round to keep them interested."

This year’s 10k run will follow the same route as last year. The route will leave the Old Spot and head for Whiteway woods before heading towards Uley past Small Pox Hill, taking in Coaley Peak and heading back to Dursley. Last year the fastest runner completed the route in 37 minutes.

Refreshments will be available for those taking part at the halfway mark outside the Old Crown pub in Uley.

Mr Herbert said everyone taking in the run is invited to a supper and free half a pint back at the Old Spot after they finish. The pub is also hosting a charity quiz in the evening on Sunday, June 3.

This year’s run, which will also raise money for the Cotswold Care Hospice, will start at 4pm for walkers and 5pm for runners.

The run is £10 to enter and £6.50 for OAPs and childrens. Runners can register beforehand in the Old Spot or on the day.
