DRIVERS in the county are being advised to slow down and stick to advisory speed limits.
The warning comes after Gloucestershire County Council admits several roads that had been recently surface dressed have been affected by the heat.
According to the highways authority hot temperatures can stop the surface setting as quickly as normal.
The council has said it is monitoring every road that has been treated in the past few weeks and where problems have been identified, extra warning signs have been put up to make drivers aware of the change in road surface and to reduce the speed limit to 20mph.
However, the council is receiving reports that people are ignoring the temporary speed limits.
Nigel Tomlinson, Head of Gloucestershire Highways, said: "We’ve introduced the 20mph speed limits for safety reasons and people should be responsible and stick to it.
"At the moment, we’re hearing that people are ignoring the signs and continuing to drive at the normal road speed, which can be dangerous – not just for them but for other road users as well.
"The issues with the roads should reduce as the weather gets cooler, but in the mean time we will continue to monitor the situation and take action wherever we need to."
