A TANKER lorry split 1,000 litres of aviation fuel in Hallen.
Firefighters were called to Ison Hill around 6.30am on Wednesday, May 30 after a truck started leaking petrol on the road.
It is believed a significant amount of fuel entered a drain.
When crews arrived on the scene they requested the attendance of the Environment Agency, the Highways Agency and the Health and Safety Executive. They were able to isolate the leak.
Firefighters worked with staff on the site to put a floating boom in place. There is no evidence at this stage to suggest any fuel entered the watercourse.
Approximately 20 tonnes of sand was spread onto the roadway to clean up the excess petrol and absorb any vapours.
No one was hurt during the incident.
