The Poppy Appeal 2005, when we just had the Dursley area to do, yielded £3780.39. This was a very good result for us but the following year when Dursley and Cam Branches amalgamated this went up to £5812.02. The higher figure represented a splendid effort from our members and supporters and I set a goal of breaking through the £6000 barrier this year. I can inform you that to date we have banked £8050 and I have at least another £200 to pay in. When I announced this figure at our recent AGM there were gasps of amazement.
This is a staggering good total and I can only express my humble thanks to all those individuals and organisations who gave so generously and to all our volunteers who worked so hard distributing and collecting poppy boxes, who stood on cold streets selling poppies and who helped count and bank the cash. It was a tremendous effort.
My thanks must also go to everyone who attended and supported the two remembrance parades this year, certainly numbers were up in Cam. I must also thank the local press who gave such splendid coverage in support of both the Poppy Appeal and the Remembrance parades.
The Dursley & Cam Royal British Legion welcomes new members and meets on the first Sunday of every month at 1200h in the Community Centre in Rednock Drive.
