Gloucestershire League Division One Longlevens 3 Dursley 11.

DURSLEY put an end to their losing run by winning a vital clash at Longlevens.

Jak Evans scored the only try for the maroons as Dursley won a low scoring match in poor conditions.

The early exchanges showed the tension hanging over both teams and Stef Hawley had to make several clearances to keep Dursley on level terms.

However, the visitors eventually gained more possession and threatened to make the breakthrough themselves.

Dursley broke the deadlock with a penalty after Longlevens went over the top at a ruck following good work by TJ Case, Simon Lane and Robbie Winchle.

Hawley converted the penalty kick from 22 metres for a 3-0 lead.

The visitors then gave themselves an eight-point lead at the break just when Longlevens might have fancied a try of their own.

Winchle and Evans put in a couple of big hits to turn over the ball from an attack by the home side and possession was quickly recycled to allow Evans to gallop upfield to score an unconverted try for an 8-0 half-time advantage.

In the second half, Dursley had more possession but were unable to add to the scoreline despite good work by flankers Andy Scott and Kev Davies.

Longlevens played a spoiling game to frustrate the visitors and then notched a penalty in a rare foray into opposition territory.

Recent games had seen Dursley letting teams off the hook at this stage but Andy Henderson and Ed Kerr were not in the mood to do that and ran the ball deep into the home side's half.

The all-important next score came from Dursley as Hawley made it a two-score game by kicking a penalty after the hosts pulled a maul down.

Longlevens had five minutes to save themselves but they had nothing more to offer and Dursley took an 11-3 victory.

Maroons skipper Andy Scott said: "This was a crucial win and puts us in a healthier position. We will build on this and hopefully climb up the table. It was our defensive strength in the first half that gave us the platform."

Dursley have a friendly this weekend but then entertain league leaders Bristol Saracens the week after.
