Pip N Jay 2 Thornbury Baptist 5 To the amazement of both teams and the ref, the game went ahead in blustery and rainy conditions at Clifton College. With the Baps passing game getting better each week it was always going to be a feast of pretty football against the skilful Pips side.
After a GFA defeat last week, Thornbury's confidence was restored as early as the fourth minute. A corner from Underdown was headed in from 2 yards by an unmarked Rich Sage. The lead was doubled when an exquisite chipped pass from Stu Kelly split the defence and the ever-improving Joe Maiden lobbed the ball over the unrushing keeper.
Playing with the wind down the hill, The Baps knew a big interval lead would be needed and goals from Cooke and Underdown made it 4-1.
As expected the home side came out strongly in the second half and Thornbury have Pritchard to thank that Pip n Jay didn't score more than the one extra goal in a 15 minute backs-against-the-wall period.
The important goal went to Thornbury 20 minutes from the end when James Hancox tapped in following another great midfield move involving Sage and Kelly.
